Southeast Asia steel billet buyers hold out on China's return, prices fall further

Import prices for steel billet in Southeast Asia edged down again on Thursday November 22 amid lower offers and slow procurement activity, with some buyers staying away after China reappeared in the export market.

Fastmarkets' daily price assessment for billet imported into Southeast Asia was $485-495 per tonne cfr Manila on Thursday, widening downward by $5 per tonne.Deals involving large volumes of Malaysian billet were heard concluded at $495 per tonne cfr to the Philippines early this week.One cargo of 150mm billet from Malaysia was offered at $475-480 per tonne cfr Thailand. A few traders said it might have been sold at $475 per tonne cfr Thailand, although they could not confirm the deal...
