Spanish steel import volumes fall 3% in Jan-Apr 2019, Unesid says

Steel import volumes into Spain fell to 3.51 million tonnes in January-April 2019, down by 3.1% from 3.62 million tonnes in the corresponding period in 2018, according to Unesid, the country's steel association.

Import volumes from non-EU countries fell by 5.8% to 1.17 million tonnes in the first four months of 2019, from 1.24 million tonnes in January-April 2018, with Unesid noting the swift exhaustion of the EU's February-June steel import quotas for long steel products.The European Commission (EC) imposed definitive steel import safeguard measures on 28 imported steel products in February, replacing provisional measures that had been in place since July 2018.Spanish steel exports fell year-on-year by 2.2% to 2.89 million tonnes in January-April 2019, from 2.96 million tonnes.Exports specifically to destinations outside the EU fell...
