(IDEX Online) - A spectacular asscher-cut Golconda five-carat diamond ring by Harry Winston has been sold at auction.
It was valued at $600,000 but the price, paid by an unnamed online buyer from New Orelans, Louisiana, USA, was not disclosed.
The 5.06 carat stone, graded by GIA as internally flawless, D-color, and type IIa, was described by sellers as the "ultimate diamond".
The ring was made by the legendary New York jeweler Harry Winston, known as King of Diamonds.
The stone came from the famed Goloconda mines, in India, which operated in the 16th and 17th centuries, and which produced diamonds of remarkable quality, whiteness and clarity.
The ring was sold on the 1stDibs antiques and artefacts e-commerce website, which said: "This enchanting stone represents the incredibly small number of Golconda diamonds that have ever been on the market".
