Steel billet sellers eye quick Asia price rebound after decreases

Exporters of steel billet raised their offers at the end of a week in which prices for the semi-finished material had been consistently under pressure, sources told Fastmarkets on Friday March 12.

Chinese buyers were very active during the previous two weeks, booking a raft of billet cargoes from India, Indonesia and Vietnam. But trading activity was muted over most of the past seven days, with sales prices coming at a sharp discount to previous levels.
Indonesia-origin blast furnace (BF) billet of 3sp, 150mm grade was heard sold at $590-593 per tonne cfr China, with the deals coming on Wednesday and Thursday, Chinese trading sources said. This was down from deals closed for material of the same origin at $620-622 per tonne cfr late last week.
