Steel import prices climb further in South America on higher offers

Prices of flat-rolled steel imports in South America mostly moved upward in the week to Friday October 16, amid higher offers from Chinese mills and deals being settled at higher levels.

Fastmarkets' price assessment for steel hot-rolled coil, import, cfr main ports South America, was $530-565 per tonne on Friday, widening upward from $530-560 per tonne a week before.
Chinese offers were reported mostly at $550-570 per tonne to the Pacific coast, and at $560-570 per tonne to Brazil. Japanese HRC was presented to Pacific South America at $600 per tonne, a price level yet to be accepted by customers.
Market participants, on the other hand, saw $550-565 per tonne as the tradable level for China-origin material imported into South America.
