Steel production to be banned in extended Bangladesh lockdown

Production of steel will be halted for at least two weeks in the key Bangladesh market when the country's latest Covid-19-related lockdown starts on Friday July 23, sources have told Fastmarkets.

The new lockdown rules will be stricter on the steel industry than the existing 'circuit breaker' regime. The current rules came into effect on July 1 and permitted steel production to continue, although the arrangement has squeezed logistics, stopped retail steel sales and limited the collection of domestic scrap.
