Today's update includes information about: Donald J. Trump in the signature line of the stimulus checks already approved and the timing impact of when stimulus checks will arrive. The House Ways and Means Committee indicated that 5 million checks per week are being issued and it's going to take a lot of time to print the checks anyway. Checks will be released to those with the lowest income first. The fastest way to receive your stimulus check is to file your 2019 taxes. You can file for free with the IRS. Be careful as Turbo tax has been heavily advertising paid-for products on their file registration form. Also, some people who have passed away are receiving stimulus. While there's no guidance on this yet, it's likely this should be paid back, though penalties or enforcement may be difficult.The system at irs.gov/eip by the way has had its share of troubles but appears to be working better today, though off-peak hours will be best.The EIDL program for a free $1,000 grant per employee AND PPP (paycheck protection programs) have both run out of money. Infighting between Democrats and Republicans is making it more difficult to extend these programs. Remember to be watchful of the pitfalls associated with the PPP and the dangerous tricks related to loan forgiveness. The current plan to fund an extra $250 billion is an interim bill. In other news, SSI recipients may not have to file a tax return after all.Now on the Emergency Money for the People's Act (EMPA) introduced yesterday, Andrew Yang and many news outlets are picking up on this plan to offer up to $2,000 to adults every month for a minimum of 6 months.Emergency Money for the People Act. This plan, if implement, would release monthly stimulus to all Americans at least 16-years old as of January 1, 2020. The stimulus amount would be $2,000 for anyone 16 years or older which now solves the college-student loophole in the Cares act and the senior dependent issue as both would now qualify. It's not clear if those who are NOT residents or citizens would qualify (e.g. those with ITEN numbers). A married couple filing jointly with 1 or 2 children should expect $4,500 per month. A Married couple filing jointly with no children: $4,000 per month. A single person should expect $2,000 per month. A married couple filing jointly with 3 or more children: $5,500 per month.
