Suspect Deported to India could "Spill Beans" on Modi Case

(IDEX Online) - An associate of fugitive jeweler Nirav Modi was due to appear at a court in India today, after he was reportedly deported from Egypt.Subhash Shankar Parab, 50, is accused, along with Modi, of involvement in the $1.85bn fraud against the Punjab National Bank (PNB) in 2018.Officials sources suggest he may "spill the beans" and reveal much more about the case, according to multiple media reports in India.The country's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reportedly sent a team to Cairo to retrieve Parab, who is a former deputy general manager (finance) of Firestar Diamond.CBI officials said Parab fled India after the fraud was revealed and was issued with an Interpol Red Notice.Nirav Modi, 50, has been in custody in London since his arrest in March 2019. A British court is due to rule on his appeal against extradition, based on his claim that he is suicide risk.Modi's uncle, Mehul Choksi, 62, also a suspect in the PNB case, left India to take up citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda.
