Taiwan finds 'potential threat' of injury from Chinese flat steel imports

Imports of various carbon and stainless steel products from China pose a "real risk" of harm to Taiwan's domestic steel industry, according to a preliminary ruling by the territory's Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Although Chinese steel imports had not materially harmed Taiwan's domestic industry, they still present a "threat" of material injury, the ministry's International Trade Commission said on Thursday June 14, following its anti-dumping and countervailing investigations.Anti-dumping and countervailing duties could still be introduced, depending on the results of the final investigations.In April, Taiwan started preliminary anti-dumping and countervailing investigations into imports of carbon cold-rolled (coil/sheet) and stainless hot-rolled steel from China.Countervailing investigations were launched concurrently for galvanized and zinc-alloy flat-rolled steel, carbon steel plate and stainless cold-rolled steel.
