Tantalum at year-to-date high; strong demand from electronics to support Q2 prices

Tantalum prices have hit year-to-date highs while strong demand from the electronics sector will continue to support the market in the second quarter of 2021, market sources told Fastmarkets.

Fastmarkets' assessed the price of tantalite, basis 25% min Ta2O5, cif China at $69-71 per lb on April 2, its highest since Fastmarkets started assessments in May 2020 - when it stood at $65-66 per lb - and a level it has maintained for the past three weeks. Prices were rolled over last week due to the Easter holiday in the UK.
