U.S. equity index futures were lower this morning. S&P 500 futures were down 4 points in pre-opening trade.

Index futures were virtually unchanged following release of economic news at 8:30 AM EDT. Consensus for Weekly Jobless Claims was an increase to 214,000 from 210,000 last week. Actual was 213,000. Consensus for July Personal Income was an increase of 0.4% versus a gain of 0.4% in June. Actual was an increase of 0.3%. Consensus for July Personal Spending was an increase of 0.4% versus a gain of 0.4% in June. Actual was an increase of 0.4%

The Canadian Dollar slipped 0.13 to 77.21 cents U.S. following release of Canada's second quarter real GDP report. Consensus was annualized growth at 3.0% versus 1.3% in the first quarter. Actual was growth at a 2.9% rate. Month-over-month growth in June was unchanged from May

Toronto Dominion Bank (TD $79.31 Cdn.) is expected to open higher after reporting higher than consensus fiscal third quarter earnings.

Dollar Tree dropped $5.46 to $89.00 after lowering its third quarter guidance.

Abercrombie & Fitch fell $2.62 to $24.80 after reporting lower than consensus second quarter results.

Salesforce.com fell $3.22 to $151.56 after lowering its third quarter guidance.
