Tech Talk for Tuesday March 1st 2022

U.S. equity index futures were lower this morning. S&P 500 futures were down 11 points in pre-opening trade.

The Canadian Dollar was virtually unchanged at US78.80 cents following release of Canada's December GDP at 8:30 AM EST. Consensus was unchanged versus a gain of 0.6% in November. Actual was unchanged . Consensus for fourth quarter real GDP was an annualized increase of 6.5% versus an annualized gain of 5.4% in the third quarter. Actual was an increase of 6.7%.

Steel Dynamics added $0.47 to $71.05 after raising its dividend. The company also announced a share buyback program.

Zoom slipped $2.92 to $129.68 after lowering revenue guidance for 2022.

Workday gained $15.20 to $244.25 after reporting higher than consensus quarterly earnings. The company also offered strong guidance.

Bank of Montreal (BMO Cdn$144.73) is expected to open higher after reporting higher than consensus fiscal first quarter earnings.

Cameco $CCO.CA , a TSX 60 stock moved above $30.10 resuming an intermediate uptrend. The uranium ETF $URA, heavily weighted in Cameco completed a similar technical pattern.

ConocoPhillips $COP an S&P 100 stock moved above $94.45 extending an intermediate uptrend.

First Trust Natural Gas ETF $FCG moved above $21.05 extending an intermediate uptrend.

TSX energy equities and ETFs are responding to higher natural gas and crude oil prices. TSX Energy iShares $XEG.CA moved above $13.28 to a seven year high extending an intermediate uptrend. Notably stronger among Canadian energy stocks are "gassy" stocks such as ARC Resources. Nice breakout by ARX.CA above Cdn$15.64 extending an intermediate uptrend!

Agribusiness ETF $COW.CA moved above Cdn$67.00 to an all-time high extending an intermediate uptrend. Responding to higher grain prices.

Base metals iShares $PICK moved above $59.63 extending an intermediate uptrend.
