Ternium expects higher US flat steel prices in Q2, slight drop in Q3-Q4

Domestic prices for flat-rolled steel in the United States are expected to remain high throughout the second quarter, but decrease slightly in the third and fourth quarters, although not significantly, Ternium chief executive officer M??ximo Vedoya said on Wednesday April 28.

The executive said demand in the US was strong, and he doesn't expect any material improvement on the supply side this year.
"I don't see any event that would diminish prices this year [in a dramatic way]," Vedoya told analysts and investors during a first-quarter earnings call. "Demand remains high and new capacities are not scheduled to come online in the near future."

Fastmarkets' steel hot-rolled coil index, fob mill US was calculated at $72.83 per hundredweight ($1,456.60 per short ton) on April 27, a 0.22% increase over $72.67 per cwt the day before...
