Ternium to focus on supplying slab to its Mexican ops, Brazil's domestic market

Latin American steelmaker Ternium plans to focus mainly on supplying its own slab needs in Mexico and selling any excess to the domestic market via its slab mill in Brazil, chief executive officer M??ximo Vedoya said on Wednesday April 28.

The Ternium Brasil mill, in southeastern Rio de Janeiro state, shipped around 700,000 tonnes to the company's own facilities in Mexico during the first quarter, Vedoya said during an earnings call, noting that he expects those volumes to at least remain stable in the coming quarters.
In the January-March period, slab sales volumes to third parties from Brazil decreased both sequentially and year on year, Ternium said in its earnings report. The steelmaker anticipates a further drop in the second quarter.

Slab shipments to third parties totaled 466,000 tonnes in the first quarter, down by 26.73% from 636,000 tonnes a year earlier, according to a presentation shared...
