Finnish multi-metal producer Terrafame plans to increase focus on nickel production this year, emboldened by a 31% year-on-year increase in the metal's output in only its third full year of production in 2018.
Production of nickel, Terrafame's main product, increased to 27,377 tonnes in 2018 from 20,864 tonnes the year before, the company said on Thursday February 21. The company also achieved a quarterly record for nickel production totaling 7,710 tonnes in the fourth quarter, a 32% increase on 2017's fourth-quarter production of 5,840 tonnes.
