(IDEX Online) - A team of jewelers have completed the world's most expensive fully-functioning face mask, set with 210 carats of black and white diamonds.

Yvel, the luxury Israeli brand, was commissioned by an anonymous Los Angeles-based businessman and art collector, who was keen to help keep the production center open during difficult times.

The COVID-19 mask is made of 250 grams of pure 18k gold, set with 3,608 natural diamonds and costs $1.5m.

Despite its weight, the work of art is actually designed to be worn and features a slot for a disposable N-99 mask.

Twenty-five of the company's top artisans and diamond setters were involved in the manufacture of the mask, which was designed by Yvel co-founder Isaac Levy.

He said: "We cannot thank the buyer enough for his support over the last decades and especially now during the pandemic. We can't wait to officially present him with the mask."
