The challenge was to walk the Ridgeway National Trail in around 7 days, in aid of The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research. Our journey began on Friday 20th October 2006, travelling to Marlbrough for an overnight stay, setting off early the next morning.The event was a success for Simon, who did a great job and managed to walk the 85 miles in just 6 days!! Well done Simon!! I, unfortunately, had to pull out after 12 miles with a foot and hip injury. Despite this, I hung around encouraging Simon, and supplying the odd cup of coffee along the way.The Ridgeway National Trail is 85 miles long, stretching from Avebury in Wiltshire, over rolling, open downland to the west of the River Thames, and through secluded valleys and woods in The Chilterns to the east, finishing near Ivinghoe in Hertfordshire.Reputed to be the oldest road in Britain, the trail follows the same route used since prehistoric times by travellers, herdsmen and soldiers.
