(IDEX Online) - Tiffany fooled its followers on social media with a pair of diamond-encrusted sneakers, each set with 17,000 carats, with a total weight of 1,837 carats (a reference to the year the company was founded). The prank provoked a mixed reaction, with many immediately spotting it was an April Fool. But one or two were taken in. One posted "Absolutely obscene", presumably reckoning it was for real.Other reactions on LinkedIn included: "bet you don't walk around with it more than 5 minutes" and "It's an April Fool. But people love it!"The Tiffany post read: "Introducing our latest creation: the Tiffany & Co. Facet. Ushering in a new category for the House, the sneaker is an homage to our vast diamond heritage. "In an unparalleled display of craftsmanship, Tiffany's in-house master artisans hand set over 17,000 scintillating diamonds totaling over 1,837 carats on each shoe. Price strictly upon request. Tiffany's is no stranger to April Fool jokes. In 2021 it told Instagram followers it was replacing its iconic robin-egg blue with a bright shade of yellow. But it's not always easy to separate jokes from reality. In February it announced the (genuine) launch of a pair of Nike AF1s (Air Force 1) sneakers with a Tiffany blue swoosh for $400 - four times the price of a standard pair.Pic courtesy Tiffany
