Tight prompt supply pushes manganese flake prices up 6% in active spot market

Tightening prompt supply in Europe as a result of large-volume end-user inquiries has continued to push manganese flake prices higher in an active spot market during the week to Friday February 12.

Fastmarkets' price assessment for manganese, 99.7% electrolytic manganese flake, in-whs Rotterdam climbed to $2,750-2,850 per tonne on Friday February 12, up $150 from the midweek assessment of $2,600-2,700 per tonne, and from $2,500-2,600 per tonne a week earlier.

The European manganese flake market started the year at $2,120-2,280 per tonne and reached its year-to-date high of $2,800-2,940 per tonne on January 22, as prompt availability tightened and freight rates soared. Prices then eased to $2,500-2,600...
