Tight supply, shipping delays push European manganese flake prices to 9-year high

Tightening prompt supply in Europe and continuing shipping delays pushed manganese flake prices to a nine-year high this week, with planned production cuts in China this month adding to the bullish sentiment.

Fastmarkets' price assessment for manganese, 99.7% electrolytic manganese flake, in-whs Rotterdam climbed by 4.9% to $3,000-3,150 per tonne on Wednesday March 31, up from the previous week's assessment of $2,820-3,040 per tonne, to levels last seen in April 2012. The manganese flake market in Europe reached its all-time high in May 2007 at $4,600-4,900 per tonne, according to Fastmarkets historical data.
