Trade measures add to pressure on Turkish steel exports in key outlets, Colakoglu says

Restrictions on international trade may lead to a further decline in the volumes of steel exports from Turkey to the EU, with the country's exports to the United States already near zero, according to Ugur Dalbeler, chief executive officer of Turkish steelmaker ??olakoglu Metalurji.

Dalbeler is also a member of the board of directors of the Turkish Iron & Steel Producers' Association (T???oeD). He was speaking during the World Steel Dynamics conference in Milan, Italy, last week."EU flat steel imports from Turkey have been on a downtrend since the beginning of the year," Dalbeler said. "The revision of the [hot-rolled coil] import quota rules will further reduce Turkey's HRC exports to the EU."In late September, the European Commission (EC) set a limit on HRC shipments to the EU, according to which no exporting country will be allowed to exceed a share of 30% of the global tariff-rate quota. Any sales above that limit will be subject to 25% duty.That may lead to reduction of HRC exports from Turkey to the EU by another 750,000-900,000 tonnes by June 2021 - the end of the third quota period - according to Dalbeler's estimation.In January-August, the EU...
