TURKEY COATED FLAT STEEL: Prices surge to eight-year highs on limited supply, strong demand

Demand for coated steel products in the domestic Turkish market was strong in the week to Friday December 11 while supply was still limited, sources told Fastmarkets.

As a result, prices kept increasing during the week, reaching their highest levels since the end of 2012.
Some coated coil producers sold limited quantities of product at the beginning of the week, and then closed their orderbooks.
The reason for the limited supply was low stock levels of hot-rolled coil, the base product for coated coil.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel hot-rolled coil, domestic, exw Turkey, was $730-750 per tonne on December 11, rising from $690-700 per tonne...
