(IDEX Online) - The MJSA Expo and JA New York Spring events have both been canceled at five days' notice, because of coronavirus fears in New York. The MJSA Expo, the longest-running jewelry trade show in the USA, which last year attracted 3,000 buyers, says it hopes to announce new dates soon.JA New York Spring, which attracts 600 jewelry brands, designers and suppliers, says it has two other events arranged, for August and October, and is not planning to reschedule. Both events had been due to take place jointly at the Javits Center, New York from 15 to 17 March."We place the highest importance on the health and well-being of our exhibitors, attendees, and staff," said David W. Cochran, president and CEO of Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America."Given Governor Cuomo's decision to declare a state of emergency for New York State, along with the current uncertainty about the virus's progression in New York City, we've decided to postpone the show until the threat passes and we can be more certain that MJSA Expo can be run both safely and successfully."We've already heard from many Expo exhibitors who agree that this move is necessary," he continued. "We are currently working with the management of JA New York and the Javits Center to identify new show dates for later this year, and we'll coordinate with our exhibitors to ensure the shift can proceed as smoothly as possible."
