RAPAPORT... The Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair closed a day early as the city braced for typhoon Mangkhut on Sunday. Authorities raised the warning signal to level 10 (the highest alert) Sunday morning, with Hong Kong expected to feel the maximum force of Mangkhut at around midday, according to the Hong Kong Observatory, which monitors weather patterns in the region. Therefore, the jewelry fair will be closed the whole day at AsiaWorld expo, organizers UBM said. Sunday was scheduled to be the final day of the show at that location, where the loose diamond pavilion is found, while the finished jewelry exhibition at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) continues through Monday. HKCEC will also be closed Sunday morning but will reopen if the typhoon signal is lowered to category 8 before 1:30pm. Exhibition halls at AsiaWorld Expo will be open all day until 11pm for exhibitors to move out "at their own discretion," show organizers noted.Image: Flickr (Johnny Lai)
