Calendar IIInvestors will receive the September PPI and CPI readings

There a few notable events on the upcoming slate for economic data, including Tuesday's producer price index (PPI) update and the release of the Fed meeting minutes from September. But the main focus will likely be the trade talks between the U.S. and China. The two countries are finally scheduled to meet in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, likely keeping traders on edge in the early days of the week. Meanwhile, the earnings calendar is rather bare, though Friday's report from Fastenal (FAST) should be worth monitoring given the recent focus on the U.S. manufacturing sector.

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

The only noteworthy event for Monday, Oct. 7, will be a conversation featuring Minnesota Fed President Neel Kashkari. Mr. Kashkari will give another speech on the following day, Tuesday, Oct. 8, as will Chicago Fed President Charles Evans. The September PPI reading is scheduled for release in the morning. There will be some action on the earnings front, too, with Domino's Pizza (DPZ) set to report.

On Wednesday, Oct. 9, the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) comes out, along with the weekly crude inventory update, but the main highlight will be the Federal Open Market Committee's (FOMC) September meeting minutes. No earnings will be released.

The consumer price index (CPI) comes out on Thursday, Oct 10, as does weekly jobless claims, the Treasury budget, and the Fed's balance sheet. For earnings, Delta Air Lines (DAL) will report.

To close out the week on Friday, Oct. 11, traders will absorb import and export prices, plus the University of Michigan consumer sentiment index. The earnings schedule features FAST and Infosys (INFY).
