UK SCRAP: Light iron market steady but keeps wary eye on March settlements

The inter-merchant spot market for light iron scrap in the UK was steady in the week ended Friday March 6, marking four weeks of stability but ahead of an uncertain outcome in negotiations for monthly deliveries to British steelmakers from domestic suppliers this month, sources have told Fastmarkets.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel scrap 5C, loose old light, domestic, delivered inter-merchant, UK, was ?70-90 ($90-116) per tonne on Friday. The market was at a year-to-date peak of ?95-110 per tonne in mid-January.
The UK light iron market has been supported by steady demand from major domestic shredders and a relatively steady performance in export prices from Europe to traditional destinations such as Turkey and the Indian subcontinent.
