UK SCRAP: Market remains steady with April price rollover likely

Prices for light iron steel scrap in the United Kingdom were rolled over for a second week on Friday March 29 amid steady trading, with relatively tight availability in some areas and regular business going overseas, sources told Fastmarkets.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for UK grade-5C ferrous scrap on an inter-merchant basis was ?90-110 ($118-144) per tonne on March 29. This price range was up by 33% from ?60-90 per tonne on January 18.There have been persistent reports of steel scrap tonnages being more difficult to acquire in the northern half of England, where major shredders compete for feedstock.British steel scrap prices have been supported by steady demand at major ports, such as Liverpool and Tilbury, but other areas such as the southwest of England have had no such trouble sourcing scrap, according to dealers in those regions."There has been no change in...
