UK STEEL SCRAP WEEKLY: Market consolidates gains on relatively low intake

The inter-merchant spot market for light iron scrap in the UK was steady over the week to Friday July 24, consolidating a small increase from the previous week, with relatively low levels of scrap coming into yards, industry sources said.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel scrap 5C, loose old light, domestic, delivered inter-merchant, UK was unchanged at ?85-95 ($108-121) per tonne on Friday.

Scrap inflows into UK yards have been at lower-than-usual levels since Covid-19 lockdown measures were introduced in March. As a result, there has been a fall in scrap arisings from vehicle and white goods scrappage, as well as a drop in the number of demolition...
