US aluminium billet premium tops previous all-time high

The US aluminium billet premium set another all-time high on Friday April 23, after breaking its previous all-time high just last month, supported by tight supply and strong demand.

Fastmarkets assessed the aluminium 6063 extrusion billet premium, delivered Midwest US at 20-22 cents per lb on April 23, narrowing up from 18-22 cents per lb on March 26 and its highest since Fastmarkets began assessing the premium in September 2004.
Many extruders contracted insufficient volumes during the mating season, sources said, and billet supply remains tight in the United States. But sellers have little to offer spot buyers, with their contract customers requesting the maximum amounts allowable under their volume-flexible contracts.
