US cold-rolled coil, galvanized sheet prices up for 8th straight week

Prices for cold-rolled and galvanized steel sheet in the United States have increased to their highest level since late January after mills continued to fill their order books, with some stating that availability will be scarce for the remainder of the year.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel cold-rolled coil, fob mill US climbed to $39 per hundredweight ($780 per short ton) on Thursday October 1, from $38.50 per cwt on September 24. The assessment has risen for eight consecutive weeks, gaining 25.8% during that period. 
Fastmarkets' price assessment for steel hot-dipped galvanized (cold-rolled coil base) steel coil, fob mill US rose to $39.50 per cwt ($790 per ton) on Thursday, from $39 per cwt ($780 per ton) a week earlier. That price has risen by 27.4% during the eight-week uptrend.
