Prices for cold-rolled and galvanized steel sheet in the United States climbed again to all-time highs, with many buyers reporting persistent difficulty in finding sufficient spot volumes from domestic mills - potentially for the rest of the year.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel cold-rolled coil, fob mill US spiked to $107 per hundredweight ($2,140 per short ton) on Thursday August 12 from $104.50 per cwt on August 5. The assessment has gained $75 per cwt (234.40%) in one year. Fastmarkets' price assessment for steel hot-dipped galvanized coil (cold-rolled base), fob mill US strengthened to $107.50 per cwt on Thursday from $106 per cwt a week earlier.
