US cold-rolled, galvanized sheet prices jump after mill increases, bookings

Prices for cold-rolled and galvanized steel sheet rose after a fresh round of mill price rises enticed more buyers to book tonnage before the summertime pricing rebound gains even more momentum.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel cold-rolled coil, fob mill US climbed to $35 per hundredweight ($700 per short ton) on Thursday September 10, from $34 per cwt ($680 per ton) on September 3. That rate of increase was outpaced by the leap in Fastmarkets' price assessment for steel hot-dipped galvanized (base) steel coil, fob mill US, which rose by $1.50 per cwt on Thursday to $36 per cwt ($720 per ton) from $34.50 per cwt ($690 per ton) a week earlier. Three mill sources confirmed that...
