US cold-rolled, galvanized steel sheet prices up again after order flurry

Prices for cold-rolled and galvanized steel sheet in the United States climbed for the sixth straight week after mills filled order books well into November, with some unable to promise shipment until December.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel cold-rolled coil, fob mill US rose to $36 per hundredweight ($720 per short ton) on Thursday September 17, up by 2.9% from $35 per cwt on September 10. The price has gained 16.1% since mid-August, when the assessment stood at $31 per cwt.

For the third week in a row, Fastmarkets' price assessment for steel hot-dipped galvanized (base) steel coil, fob mill US jumped by a greater amount than cold roll.
