US CRC, galv prices up; more spot buys reported

Prices for cold-rolled and galvanized steel sheet in the United States extended record highs, with spot purchases gathering momentum while service centers scour the domestic market in an attempt to procure more feedstock for customers.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel cold-rolled coil, fob mill US leaped to $67 per hundredweight ($1,340 per short ton) on Thursday January 28 from $64 per cwt on January 21. The assessment has now soared by 116.1% since dropping to its 2020 low of $31 per cwt in August.Fastmarkets' price assessment for steel hot-dipped galvanized coil (cold-rolled base), fob mill US climbed to $67 per cwt on Thursday from $65 per cwt a week earlier.
