US domestic, import beam prices fall on mill cuts, offers

Steel beam prices in the United States have fallen in tandem with recent mill cuts, while fresh offers have lowered import prices.

Fastmarkets' monthly price assessment for steel beams 8 x 8-inch, fob mill US, declined to $35.25 per hundredweight ($705 per short ton) on Thursday August 29, down 7.8% from July's assessment of $38.25 per cwt and down nearly 19% from $43.50 per cwt one year ago. The current monthly assessment is also in line with official price reductions of $60 per ton ($3 per cwt )announced by domestic mills on August 19. The latest price downward price adjustment is the fourth such move announced by domestic mills in the past twelve months. At the same time, Fastmarkets' monthly assessment for imported steel beams medium sections, ddp Houston, fell to $660-675 per ton from $690-720 per ton during July.US market outlookMill list prices for normal-sized spot orders have become relevant again, sources said, telling Fastmarkets that...
