US domestic, import beams prices flat; demand edges higher

Prices for domestic steel beams in the United States were flat on Thursday October 29 despite modestly rising demand, while prices for offshore material also held steady amid continuing weak import volumes, market participants said.

Fastmarkets' price assessment for steel beams 8 x 8-inch, fob mill US again held at $35.25 per hundredweight ($705 per short ton) on October 29, where it has remained since April 30.
Fastmarkets' assessment for steel beams medium sections, loaded truck Port of Houston for immediate delivery likewise was flat at $620-660 per ton, unchanged after rising to the current level in late September.
While certain domestic mills had announced beams price increases in mid-September, they have not yet followed through on implementing the higher prices on new orders, according to market participants.
