US domestic, import rebar prices flat despite demand concerns

Reinforcing bar prices in the United States were stable week on week on mostly flat domestic ferrous scrap prices and a partially successful mill price hike, market participants said.

Those factors appear to have offset - at least for now - concerns about construction demand and outright pessimism about infrastructure spending heading into 2021, some sources said.
Fastmarkets assessed the price for steel reinforcing bar, fob mill US at $29.75 per hundredweight ($595 per short ton) on Wednesday October 21, unchanged since mid-September.

Inputs were received between $29 per cwt and $31 per cwt. The midpoint of that range, and the target price for some mills, was approximately $30 per cwt. But deals remain available...
