US ferro-titanium major says no impact on output from fire

US titanium producer Global Titanium, which is based in Detroit, Michigan, has suffered no impact to production after a fire at its plant earlier this month.

The company, which has the capacity to make 10,000 tonnes per year of 70% grade (Ti) alloy and is one of the biggest ferro-titanium producers in the world, said the impact of the fire had only slowed production of fines. The fire on January 3 was the result of a machine that shreds titanium to granular form setting light when it was turned on.World production capacity of 70%-grade ferro-titanium is estimated to be about 65,000-70,000 tpy, although not all of that is utilized.
