US hot-, cold-rolled coil import prices climb further

Prices for imported hot-rolled and cold-rolled coil in the United States climbed to new all-time highs over the past two weeks, with US consumers competing with other buyers to purchase limited material.

"There is not a lot of supply anywhere," a consumer said. "I'm not interested in the imports that are available because they are too expensive."
Fastmarkets' assessment for steel hot-rolled coil, import, ddp Houston was at $1,300-1,360 per short ton ($65-68 per hundredweight) on Wednesday April 28, up by 3.10% from $1,260-1,320 per ton on April 14 and the highest level on record since 1990.
