US hot-rolled coil index breaks above $77/cwt

Hot-rolled coil prices in the United States set a new record for the third day in a row, passing the $77-per-hundredweight ($1,540-per-short-ton) threshold for the first time on Wednesday May 12.

Fastmarkets' daily steel hot-rolled coil index, fob mill US was calculated at $77.06 per cwt ($1,541.20 per ton) on May 12, up by 0.59% from $76.61 per cwt on Tuesday May 11 and by 4.01% from $74.09 per cwt one week earlier. Wednesday's price hike sets another new record for the HRC market.
