US hot-rolled coil index falls to 6-month low on volume discounts

US hot-rolled coil prices have fallen to their lowest in six months, with big buyers returning to the market to take advantage of deep discounts, market participants said.

Fastmarkets' daily steel hot-rolled coil index, fob mill US fell to $23.38 per hundredweight ($476.60 per ton) on Thursday April 23, down 2.1% from $23.89 per cwt on Wednesday April 22 and 6.3% from $24.94 per cwt a week earlier.Prices stand at their lowest since they reached $23.15 per cwt on October 24, 2019 - six months ago.
