US hot-rolled coil index returns above $81/cwt

Hot-rolled coil prices in the United States have returned above $81 per hundredweight ($1,620 per short ton), with buyers reporting that some consumers have started to push back against high prices for steel, market participants said.

Fastmarkets' daily steel hot-rolled coil index, fob mill US was calculated at $81.23 per cwt ($1,624.60 per ton) on Thursday June 3, up by 0.74% from $80.63 per cwt the previous day but down by 0.48% from $81.62 per cwt on May 27, the highest since Fastmarkets started covering the market in 1960.
