US hot-rolled coil index slips but remains above $25/cwt

Hot-rolled coil prices in the United States inched lower day on day after surging on Monday August 31, but have remained above $25.50 per hundredweight ($510 per short ton) thanks to expectations of short-term market strength.

Fastmarkets' daily steel hot-rolled coil index, fob mill US was calculated at $25.53 per cwt ($510.60 per ton) on Tuesday September 1, down by 0.3% from $25.60 per cwt on August 31 but up by 3.9% from $24.58 per cwt a week ago on August 25.

Inputs were received between $22.50 per cwt and $27.50 per cwt, a wide $5-per-cwt...
