US hot-rolled coil index steady at $25-26/cwt despite jitters

Hot-rolled coil prices in the United States have remained rangebound on expectations of flat or lower domestic ferrous scrap prices in July and uncertainty about end-use demand, market participants said.

Fastmarkets' daily steel hot-rolled coil index, fob mill US was calculated at $25.44 per hundredweight ($508.80 per short ton) on Tuesday June 16, up by 0.5% from $25.32 per cwt on Monday June 15 but down by 2.1% from $25.98 per cwt a week ago on June 9.Inputs were received in a range from $24.50-27 per cwt - a relatively narrow spread of $2.50 per cwt.
