US HRC index falls below $30/cwt again on negative scrap outlook

Hot-rolled coil prices in the United States again dropped below $30 per hundredweight ($600 per short ton) on fears that a negative ferrous scrap outlook for February could put the flat-rolled steel market under more pressure.

Fastmarkets' daily steel hot-rolled coil index, fob mill US was calculated at $29.98 per cwt ($599.60 per ton) on Wednesday January 29, down by 0.8% from $30.22 per cwt the day before but almost unchanged from $30.03 per cwt a week earlier on January 22.
