US import beam price springs up, domestic price stays flat

The prices for US imports of steel beams has risen on confirmed sales of Mexican material while the price for domestic beams remained stable, Fastmarkets AMM has learned.

Fastmarkets' assessment for imported beams is now $790-810 per short ton ($39.50-40.50 per hundredweight) delivered duty paid Port of Houston as of Thursday March 28, up 3.9 % from $740-800 per ton ($37-40 per cwt) previously. At the same time, domestic W8x8 beam prices are steady at $43.25 per cwt FOB mill.A trader confirmed sales of Mexican beams in the southern United States at loaded truck prices between $39.50 to $40.50 per cwt. Demand "is picking back up a little bit," the trader said, who reported increased business from service center customers. A distributor based in the South heard offers for Mexican material at this pricing level as well.According to the latest license data released by the US Department of Commerce's Enforcement and Compliance division, beam imports are already up 92%...
