US merchant bar quality steel prices flat; demand said rising

Prices for domestic and imported merchant bar quality (MBQ) steel in the United States again remained flat this month while market participants reported that demand was rising, although only modestly in some locations.

Fastmarkets' monthly price assessment for steel bar 2 x 2 x 1/4 -inch angle merchant products, fob mill US was $33.80 per hundredweight ($676 per short ton) on Friday June 26, unchanged from May and April; the price had held at $35.05 per cwt in January-March. 
Fastmarkets' assessment for steel merchant bar, loaded truck Port of Houston for immediate delivery was flat at $630-650 per ton on June 26, also unchanged from May and April after holding at $650-670 per ton in February and March.
One manufacturer of metal shapes and hardware from merchant bar steel was bullish, citing strong activity this past month.
