US non-ferrous scrap exports mostly flat in Jan

US non-ferrous scrap export volumes in January increased by only 1% compared with a year previous, according to data from the US Department of Commerce. Volumes totaled 233,878 tons in January, up from 231,593 tons in January 2019.

Of the six scrap metal categories tracked by Fastmarkets - aluminium, used beverage cans (UBCs), copper, lead (other than lead-acid batteries), nickel and zinc - UBCs realized the biggest year-on-year increase, more than tripling to reach 8,141 tons from 2,617 tons in January 2019.Fastmarkets assessed the aluminium scrap used beverage cans, domestic aluminum producer buying price, fob shipping point US, at 50-53 cents per lb at the last session on Thursday March 5.Aluminium scrapJanuary exports...
