US plate price flat; buyers in wait-and-see mode

Steel plate prices held steady in the United States while service centers paused their buying in order to assess the next steps in the Covid-19 pandemic and its resultant impact on construction and energy demand.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel cut-to-length plate carbon grade, fob mill US was unchanged at $30 per hundredweight ($600 per short ton) on Monday April 13. The price, normally assessed on Fridays, was delayed until Monday because of the Good Friday holiday. One year ago, the cut-to-length price was $46 per cwt ($920 per ton)....
