US plate prices rise; market braces for more mill increases

Prices for carbon steel plate in the United States strengthened for the third consecutive week after purchase-order volumes for January 2021 shipments at the mills proved to be sufficient to sustain recent price increases.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel cut-to-length plate carbon grade, fob mill US climbed to $35 per hundredweight ($700 per short ton) on Friday December 4, up from $34.50 per cwt in the prior assessment, which occurred on Monday November 30 because of US Thanksgiving holiday closures.
